A man who survived a shark attack in Samoa is fighting for his life at the Tupua Tamasese Meaole Hospital.
The 47-year-old from Poutasi Falealili is suffering from serious chest wounds.
The Director of Clinical Services at National Health, Lemalu Dr Penehuro Tapelu, has told the Samoa Observer the man was fishing last week when he was mauled.
It could not be ascertained if he was fishing within the lagoon.
The doctor says the man is lucky to be alive.
He was evacuated from Poutasi District Hospital to the National Hospital at Moto'otua because of severe injuries on his chest.
