Fiji's Sugar Cane Growers Council wants just under US$3.24 million allocated in next year's budget for the cane planting programme.

The Council Chief Executive, Sundresh Chetty, says sugar production needs a lot of improvement and the necessary steps should be taken now.

He told Fiji Village the government allocated a similar amount under the programme this year and the council would like to see those funds continued.

The 2011 National budget will be announced this Friday.
