Calls for landowners in Vanuatu to work closely with government

Vanuatu's minister of justice and community services, Bakoa Kaltongga, has called on other provinces to follow Efate's example and allow their custom landowners to work closely with the government to make more land available for economic development.

The minister has made the appeal after a custom chief and landowner agreed to allow the government to build a correctional centre on his land.

Chief Nunu Naperik Mal says it is important inmates are treated properly to allow them to regain their respect.
