2:38 pm on 18 November 2010

The Marshall Islands Shipping Corporation has obtained funding to resume services and collect copra from the outer islands.

This follows the first release of funds by the finance ministry in the new financial year which began on October the 1st

The government's three vessels are heading to buy copra and sell trade goods on far-flung islands.

At the same time, the Tobolar Copra Processing Authority has announced a two-cent rise in price for copra, increasing it to 17 cents per pound on the outer islands.

Government officials say the copra plant is hoping to stimulate copra production above 2010 levels, which dropped off after several years of strong production above 6,000 tons a year.
