6:15 pm on 4 November 2010

The opposition leader in Solomon Islands has urged individuals and the informal Malaita Movements to stay away from a cargo cult mentality during a conference which is discussing a proposed Israeli stimulus package for the province.

The Solomon Times Online reports that in opening the Malaita Economic Development Planning Conference, Steve Abana said the proposed package is not a windfall of cash to be given to Malaita.

He says the Israeli assistance package is aimed at improving the livelihood of Malaitans that are renowned for their spirit of hard work.

A document to guide the stimulus package is expected to be developed and drafted during the conference.

It will be officially launched on November the 10th.
