Guam Republicans claim governorship

2:35 pm on 3 November 2010

The Republican ticket is claiming a narrow victory in the race to be Guam's governor.

The Pacific Daily News reports Republican Senator Eddie Calvo and his running mate Senator Ray Tenorio are setting the wheels in motion for its transition team after unofficial results gave it a 583-vote margin over the Democratic ticket.

However, the Guam Election Commission will meet today to see if there is a need for a recount because of the slim winning margin over former Governor Carl Gutierrez and Senator Frank Aguon.

In a statement Senators Calvo and Tenorio said there are many challenges ahead for Guam and the most important thing to do is to unite people.

Senator Tenorio said he was grateful the Camacho Administration has been working very hard on transition reports.

The Pacific News Center says unofficial results show the Democrats have retained control of the Guam Legislature winning 9 of the 15 seats, 8 of them going to incumbents.
