American Samoa governor pushes diabetes message

The American Samoan Governor has urged churches to limit their bingo games so that parents can feed their children healthy foods and prevent them from getting diabetes.

Speaking at a prayer service to open Diabetes Awareness Month, Togiola Tulafono empasised the importance of a healthy diet in preventing diabetes.

Togiola says parents should bear part of the blame for contributing to the high prevalence of diabetes because children are left to eat whatever they want.

He said the bingo games held by churches from Monday to Saturday leaves little time for parents to spend with their children.

The Governor suggested churches hold bingo games in the afternoon instead of the evening.
