Upset win provides big boost for Vanuatu's Amicale

Amicale FC say their upset victory over O-League football champions Hekari United has reassured them that they can compete at the highest level.

The Vanuatu champions recruited heavily in the off-season, and stunned Hekari 2-1 in Papua New Guinea in what was their first ever O-League fixture.

Coach William Malas says the victory has given them a huge confidence boost and helped settled a few nerves.

"After the game we tell that, see, if we can beat Hekari we can beat Lautoka, we can beat Solomon Islands, we can beat any team. We tell the players that the only thing for you to do is to humble yourself and obey the leadership and follow all the instructions that we give to you."

What happened was in PNG - it gave us confidence that we can do the same thing with other clubs, other teams also.

Amicale have a week off domestic duties in Vanuatu to recover while their next O-League match is against Lautoka in Fiji on November the 13th.
