New French Polynesia hospital gets first patients

The first patients have been transferred to French Polynesia's new Taaone hospital amid a low-key demonstration by contactors over unpaid bills.

The Taaone complex was blessed in a weekend ceremony attended by several government leaders and the French high commissioner.

At the beginning of this week, disgruntled workers demanded outstanding payments to be paid amid demands to be met by the government.

Their action suggested that it would not be certain that the patients could be moved in, but according to local media a first batch of patients has been transferred from a small Papeete hospital.
