American Samoa mayors urged to submit names of absentee voters

9:08 am on 22 October 2010

Absentee voting for voters in American Samoa who are too unwell to physically cast their ballots at the polling booths on November the second is to begin this week.

But Election commissioner Soliai Tuipine says village mayors or pulenuu have been very slow in turning in the names of voters in their villages who are in this category.

Soliai estimates that only 10 villages have turned in the names of voters who are eligible to vote absentee because of their health.

Soliai says its important that village mayors submit the names of invalid voters as soon as possible and avoid a last minute rush.
