The company Goodman Fielder opened a new chicken breeding facility in Navua, Fiji yesterday to help the company meet growing demand.

Its general manager, Shaun Joils, says the need for chicken has been rising and food security is becoming more important to the country.

Mr Joils says the increase in breeding facilities will enable Crest Chicken to substitute the importation of over one million fertile eggs each year with eggs hatched here in Fiji.

The Fiji Times Online reports the investment cost over 1 million US dollars.
