Four American Samoa police officers have been charged with disturbing the peace after an incident outside a tavern on Saturday night.

One of the off duty officers, Lieutenant Ray Noa, is alleged to have hit a man on the head with a beer bottle, causing the victim to collapse in the middle of road.

It's also alleged that Lieutenant Noa continued to swear at the victim and kicked him.

Witnesses claim the other three officers chased after a colleague of the victim.

The four men have since returned to work.
