Domestic issue at centre of latest Easter Island property occupation

Reports from Chile say another property has been occupied on Easter Island but it is said to be unrelated to the recent seizures by Rapa Nui in their campaign to have ancestral land returned.

The regional mayor, Raul Celis, has told the El Mercurio de Valparaiso newspaper that a domestic problem is at the centre of the dispute.

According to the paper, the problem arose when the mother of a legal adviser refused instructions to leave the publicly-owned property next to the administrator's premises.

Efforts continue meanwhile to end the Rapa Nui clans' occupations which are in their third month.
