The new CEO of the Fiji Sugar Corporation, John Prasad, has confirmed that the military has been deployed at two sugar mills.
Mr Prasad has told the Fiji Times that the military is to help out with security issues and to keep a watchful eye on things.
The national president of the Fiji Cane Lorry Operators Association, Mahendra Prasad, says this is a very good step, adding that there have been improvements since the army has come in.
The officer-in-charge of the military's E Company in Lautoka, Major Petero Tale, says while the issue of supposed sabotage has been brought to his attention, he believes that negligence by mill workers more than sabotage is the biggest threat to the industry.
The Fiji sugar industry has been suffering setbacks in recent times and missed out on European Union funding because of the interim regime's failure to adhere to a 2007 agreement it has with Brussels.
