Tautua Samoa Party banding together with smaller parties

The chairperson of Samoa's opposition Tautua Samoa party says it's joining forces with smaller parties against the ruling Human Rights Protection Party.

Tautua Samoa's delaying releasing the names of its candidates because it still needs another five to complete the list.

Lealailepule Rimoni Aiafi says one difficulty is that opposition candidates who are employed in government jobs face losing their positions if defeated in the election.

"We do have candidates but we need to agree with other smaller parties. What we're trying to do is run one opposition party member, candidate in each district rather than running two or three so that do we do not repeat the same mistake that we made in the last general election."

Lealailepule Rimoni Aiafi says if successful, Tautua Samoa wants to reduce the term of government to four years.
