Fiji Times editor resigns two weeks after ownership change

The editor of the Fiji Times, Netani Rika, has stepped down from his post at the paper, saying this is for the good of the company.

His replacement is Fred Wesley, who is the former editor of Fiji's Sunday Times.

The change comes two weeks after News Limited of Australia sold the paper to the Motibhai group in line with a media decree by the inyerim regime curbing foreign ownership.

The new publisher, Dallas Swinstead, says while Mr Rika was seen to be anti-government by some sections of the community, he had always tried to be an editor who put Fiji's future above everything else.
