The Cook Islands minister of finance, Wilkie Rasmussen, has sacked his acting financial secretary Kevin Carr, a man he appointed to the top government position earlier this year.

In a letter terminating Kevin Carr's contract, Mr Rasmussen said he believed some of Mr Carr's actions had undermined him as minister.

Mr Carr has told local media that he doesn't know what he may have done to cause the Minister to terminate his contract.

He is also resigning from a number of statutory boards which include the Financial Supervisory Commission, National Superannuation and the Bank of the Cook Islands

Mr Carr held the post of financial secretary for over seven years before the position was made local.

He was appointed in an acting capacity to sort out the controversial financial issues involved in the deal the government entered into with TOA fuel suppliers.

Kevin Carr will continue in the job until the end of October when the finance minister is expected to appoint a replacement/
