Fiji Takiveikata mutiny retrial postponed until October

There has been a further delay in attempts to retry a Fiji High Chief, Ratu Inoke Takiveikata.

He has been charged with inciting the 2000 mutiny which aimed to kill the military commander, Commodore Frank Bainimarama.

The case was to be reopened today but according to FBC News lawyers for both the defendant and the prosecution asked Judge Daniel Goundar for more time to agree on the facts of the case.

The judge adjourned the case until October the 5th.

Takiveikata had been given a life sentence for the mutiny but in early 2007 the appeal court quashed the ruling and he was released from prison after serving 31 months.

Last March, Takiveikata was jailed again when he was given a seven year prison sentence for plotting to kill Commodore Bainimarama in late 2007.
