1:29 pm on 21 September 2010

The director of the school lunch programme in American Samoa has been released on an unsecured bond and ordered to appear at a hearing at the

federal court in Washington D.C.

Last Thursday, Paul Solofa was charged in Honolulu with witness tampering and obstruction of justice.

The charges stem from a federal investigation into allegations of bribes and kickbacks, paid by vendors to government officials, in connection with the

territory's purchase of school bus parts and services.
