A drought state of emergency will not be declared for areas of Fiji experiencing dry spell yet as the situation is not as bad as initially thought.

Fiji Village reports that as on the ground assessments and assistance continues, the Director of the disaster management agency, Pajiliai Dobui, says continuous situation reports are being collated and indications are that a drought emergency will not be declared for at least a few more weeks.

The Ministry of Provincial Development has also stressed that they have the adequate funding to ensure water is carted to the worst affected areas.
