The United States Embassy Deputy Chief of Mission says America will be able to buy more from Fiji once it meets international cargo regulations.

The FBC reports Richard Pruett made the comments at the opening of a seminar on border security for local port and border security officials conducted by a team from the US Naval Criminal Investigative Services.

He says while Fiji may not buy a lot of American products, the United States buys a lot from Fiji, and will be able to buy even more once it's compliant with security requirements.

Permanent Secretary for Defense, Jale Fotofili says security plays an important role for economic stability and promoting investor confidence in the country.
