Samoa's head of state new Chancellor for University of South Pacifc

Samoa's head of state, Tui Atua Tupua Tamasese Efi, is the new Chancellor of the University of the South Pacific following a resolution of the Council of USP.

Tui Atua appointment is as part of the University's procedure of appointing persons of distinction throughout the region.

Former Chancellor's have been the late King of Tonga Taufa'ahau Tupou IV, and Samoa's late head of state, Malietoa Tanumafili II.

Other previous Chancellors was have been the late Ratu Sir Kamisese Mara of Fiji, Ieremia Tabai of Kiribati, Sir Geoffrey Henry of the Cook Islands and Litokwa Tomeing of the Republic of the Marshall Islands.

Tui Atua is expected to perform his duties as new Chancellor of the USP in next month's graduation at the Laucala Campus in Suva.
