Good market for farmed fish in Samoa

An entrepreneur in the midst of reviving tilapia farming in Samoa says a big local market for the fish exists.

Sala Vaimili II says past attempts by village, youth groups and others lapsed because ownership of the projects was too loose.

Sala, a veteran businessman who owns various enterprises, says he is directly responsible for his farm of 10,000 fish and wants it run properly so that supply is consistent.

His strategy is to sell tilapia live to restaurants and individuals so that they arrive fresh for consumption.
