Court appearance in Marshalls domestic violence case

1:17 pm on 24 August 2010

A man at the centre of an alleged domestic violence altercation in the Marshall Islands is due to make his second court appearance.

The 54-year-old man was arrested over a week ago and has been charged with stabbing his wife to death.

A Police spokesman Eric Jorban says the man is still in police custody and is expected in court for a preliminary hearing this afternoon.

"The investigations have been completed. They have been submitted to the Attorney General's office. Right now we're still going through our trial processes right now. It has been shown that this man has alleged to have killed his wife and he's been charged with second degree murder and voluntary manslaughter."

Meanwhile, the case has prompted women's groups to lobby the president to take action against domestic violence.
