A top businesswoman in Samoa has turned down the idea of running for Parliament in the general election next year citing cultural reasons.
Lemalu Sina Lima told local television that it is inappropriate in Samoan custom and protocols for a father and daughter to be members of Parliament at the same time.
Her father is deputy Prime Minister Misa Telefoni.
Former Cabinet minister ,Hans Joachim Keil, recommended Lemalu as his successor as MP for the Individual Voters' Roll.
Lemalu said while she is flattered she is also too busy for a political career.
Lemalu runs a major car rental company and is also the president of the Chamber of Commerce.
General elections are due next year and the political parties are on the hunt for candidates.
