Papua New Guinea sprinter John Rivan has won the D-final in the boy's 200 metres at the Youth Olympic Games in Singapore.

The win helped ease the disappointment of being disqualified from his heat on Thursday.

Meanwhile, New Zealand's medal count jumped to five after world junior champion Jackson Gill climbed out of his sick bed to grab a silver medal in the junior men's shot put.

His compatriot Joseph Parker moved into the final of the super heavyweight boxing competition in impressive fashion.

He'll face Frenchman Tony Yoka in the gold medal clash.

In the girls basketball event, Vanuatu went down 17-13 to Chile in their latest round robin match.
