Solomon Islands' Democratic Party secures 14th seat

The Solomon Islands' Democratic Party has won its 14th seat, after Martin Kialoe won the contest in the Malaita Outer Islands electorate.

Mr Kialoe unseated former MP Patrick Vahoe.

The Solomon Star Times reports that the victory made SIDP, led by Fataleka MP, Steve Abana, the most successful party in this year's national elections.

But the support of 26 MPs would be needed to bring any one party to power.

SIDP spokesman, Mathew Wale, said their success was due largely to their campaign for a common sense government.

He said it also reflected sensible policy and good sense of judgment in terms of the caliber and character of leadership.
