Details of an agreement said to have been reached over American Samoa's Chicken of the Sea Samoa Packing cannery are likely to be kept confidential until the Governor returns next week.

The Samoa News has quoted a government source saying the deal has Tri Marine International purchasing the remaining Samoa Packing fixed assets at a price of less than 5 million US dollars.

Earlier Governor Togiola Tulafono, said the purchase agreement with Samoa Packing was conditional on Tri Marine securing a long term ground lease and other agreements with the Government.

The Governor has also been trying to introduce legislation to halt annual increases in the local minimum wage

But the Chairman of American Samoa's Chamber of Commerce, Joey Cummings, says for the time being the minimum wage increases will stay:

"I'm sure that if Tri Marine is coming in here, they are coming in here fully aware that they got this to deal with and there is no way they would take it this far with out being fully cognisant of that fact and I don't think they would gamble anything on waiting for it to be repealed or modified in any way."

Samoa Packing closed last September putting more than 2000 people out of work.
