A popular Samoan play "My Penina" has been revised and set to debut in Auckland this week.

Writer and actress Fiona Collins says its a remake of the earlier play she wrote which won awards at the 2003 Fringe New Zealand Awards.

It tells the story of an elderly couple Aniva and Pelenato who tell their stories about love family and a lifetime lived together on their fiftieth wedding anniversary.

She says the play has been reworked and updated, with dance movements also included this time.

"It was quite different back then as compared to then. The work's been revamped but not totally. I like that the core of the story, the main themes to the story is still the same, but in terms of the staging and some of the characters have been reworked so its been a really amazing experience."

Fiona Collins says she'd love to take the play over to Samoa at some stage.

My Penina is on at Auckland's Herald Theatre August 2 to 7th.
