Closed cannery owners in American Samoa to hand over plant to new owners

The vice President of chicken of the Sea, the parent company of Samoa Packing is in American Samoa to finalize arrangements for the turn over of the plant at Satala to new owners.

The closure of the Samoa Packing cannery last September put more than 2000 people out of jobs.

The more than 20 employees left at the plant are also preparing the plant for a visit by officials of Tri Marine International.

Tri Marine has secured business licenses in the name of Tri Marine Samoa Incorporated and according to the company's application it will be involved in various types of businesses.

They include a shipping agency for import and export, processing, canning seafood products, and wholesale sales.

Industry sources have confirmed that Chicken of the Sea have reached an agreement with tri Marine for the purchase of the remaining equipment at the Atu'u plant.
