There've been mixed fortunes for the New Zealand volleyballers on the opening day of the Oceania Volleyball Championships in New Caledonia on Monday.

The women had a comfortable 3-nil win over Samoa while the men crashed to a 3-nil defeat to Wallis and Futuna.

Volleyball New Zealand's General Manager, Pam Brodie, says the men were well beaten and didn't play to their potential.

Wallis and Futuna, Fiji, Samoa, Papua New Guinea and New Caledonia are also taking part.
