The Prime Minister of Papua New Guinea says his country might need an arrangement like the Regional Assistance Mission to Solomon Islands to maintain law and order.
Sir Michael, in a statement following the Engaging the Pacific meeting in Fiji, says he wants other Pacific nations to enjoy the opportunities presented by the country's huge liquidified natural gas project.
He says a critical area of concern to PNG is the maintenance of law and order.
And Sir Michael says an arrangement like RAMSI, made up of Pacific Islanders, might be the answer.
He says all Pacific island governments could work together with PNG to address the existing manpower shortage while PNG develops its long term plan to increase the number of police in the country.
Sir Michael says PNG needs skilled workers and he believe Pacific Island countries can provide some of those people.
