American Samoa ferry gets green light to return to full operations

6:49 pm on 23 July 2010

The U.S. Coast Guard has issued a five year Certificate of Inspection for the American Samoa government's owned passenger vessel, the MV Sili.

Governor Togiola Tulafono says the certification now permits the vessel to commence regular scheduled service for the Manu'a island starting tomorrow morning.

This also means the vessel can carry-out night departures.

Togiola says the government will continue working with the Coast Guard in upgrades to improve the vessel's safety.

During tomorrow's trip, the vessel will stop in Faleasao harbor in Manu'a and then the following day sail to Swains island.
