A former Central Bank Governor of the Solomon Islands, Rick Hou, will take on 14 other candidates in next month's general electon, including the caretaker Foreign Affairs Minister William Haomae.

Mr Hou is standing in the Small Malaita seat, after resigning his lucrative job with the World Bank in Washington DC to pursue a political career.

The SIBC reports that in the Malaita constituency of Central Kwara'ae, the caretaker finance minister, Fred Fono, will be fighting to retain his seat against 10 other candidates, including a woman and two former MPs.

In neighbouring Aoke-LangaLanga, caretaker Education Minister Mathew Wale, and five other candidates, including a woman, will contest the seat he won in a 2008 by-election.

Three former prime ministers, Sir Allan Kemakeza, Manasseh Sogavare and Francis Billy Hilly will all contest seats against several other candidates.
