Samoa car crash leads to sacking of errant driver

3:07 pm on 8 July 2010

The senior employee of the Samoa Electric Power Corporation who was implicated in a car accident involving a Cabinet Minister, has been sacked.

The termination of Chief Auditor Tofilau Afereti Leki Afaraima has been confirmed by Corporation's Acting General Manager, Lesaisaea Reupena Matafeo.

Lesaisaea told the Samoa Observer there was enough evidence to dismiss Tofilau from his post.

The Minister of Communications and Information Technology, Safuneitu'uga Pa'aga Neri, was on her way home from the airport when Tofilau, who was driving a company car, hit her vehicle.

The minister escaped with minor scratches.

Lesaisaea Reupena Matafeo says the matter is now before court.

Yesterday, Tofilau appeared in the District court on a charge of negligent driving causing injury.
