Samoa's Prime Minister has rejected an invitation by Fiji's interim prime minister to attend this month's Melanesian Spearhead Group meeting in Suva.

Tuila'epa Sailele Malielegaoi told local television he rejected the invitation as it's from someone who overthrew a democratic, elected government using guns.

Tuilaepa also questions the merit of the invitation from Commodore Frank Bainimarama and said only Pacific Islands Forum leaders can discuss the situation in Fiji.

Samoa is not a member of the Melanesian Spearhead Group.
