A 35-year-old woman has been charged with intentional homicide in the latest baby killing case in Vanuatu.

The Daily Post reports the woman is in custody for killing her baby girl on Malo.

Sources told the paper the baby died after the mother gave birth to her in a cocoa plantation in Avunaleleo village.

It is alleged the woman cut off the umbilical cord and hid the baby under cocoa leaves after delivery.

The source says the woman was hospitalised after losing too much blood before she was arrested and taken to Luganville.

The woman has four other children.
