Papua's annual Lake Sentani Festival is underway, luring thousands of visitors to the capital, Jayapura.
The event aims to promote tourism in the Indonesian province, and to preserve and showcase traditional arts and culture.
The regent for Jayapura says the event is the third time it's being held, and is expected to be repeated in coming years.
He says he hopes the festival, opened by the Tourism and Culture Ministry, would help improve the local economy and attract both tourists and investors.
