Insurance company temporarily suspends CNMI govt health insurance coverage

11:22 am on 23 June 2010

Civil servants in the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands have had their health insurance cover temporarily suspended.

StayWell Insurance has paused the coverage, because it hasn't received allotment payments by the CNMI government for June the 18th.

Employees of nine government agencies are, however, exempt from the suspension.

The government delayed the release of paycheques for most employees on Friday because of insufficient funds.

Most government employees received their paychecks on Monday, after the Commonwealth Development Authority remitted one point nine million US dollars to the general fund.

The StayWell Saipan branch manager, Eric Plinske, says health insurance coverage will resume once payments are made.
