Farmers in the United States Pacific territories as well as Hawai'i, that experience high transportation costs will soon see relief through funding.
This has been authorized through the Food, Conservation and Energy Act of 2008 from the US Department of Agriculture.
The US Agriculture Secretary, Tom Vilsack, says American producers outside the continental US often have to take extraordinary measures to transport needed items to their farms and ranches, and then experience substantial costs when they transport their farm output to markets.
Mr Vilsack says recent rising fuel costs have made the competitive disadvantage worse.
He says funding through the Farm Bill is intended to offset a portion of the costs of transporting agricultural inputs and products over long distances.
