Marketing central in Samoa tourism budget

3:08 pm on 4 June 2010

Samoa'a minister of tourism Misa Telefoni says most of the tourism allocation in the 2010/2011 national budget will be spent on marketing.

Misa says about a third is to be spent on the Australia market.

Misa said the increased marketing budget for Australia recognises Polynesian-Blue's commitment to three non-stop flights a week Sydney-Apia-Sydney and one flight a week Apia-Brisbane-Apia.

He says it also recognises major campaigns by Fiji, Vanuatu and Tahiti in particular in the Australian market.

Misa said there are still substantial marketing funds available in the budget for the New Zealand, German, Japanese and US markets but did not specify an amount.

The tourism minister also says publicity from the Manu Samoa Sevens team winning the IRB circuit this year is invaluable.
