27 Vanuatu MPs clarify affiliation amid party row

3:29 pm on 28 May 2010

The Speaker of the Vanuatu parliament has confirmed receiving forms from 27 assembly members declaring their political affiliation amid a leadership row within the Vanuaaku Party.

Georges Wells wanted the MPs to clarify their position and says he wants the outstanding forms by Monday.

Mr Wells says those who refuse to respond will be asked in the chamber.

The leadership conflict within the Vanuaaku Party is to be resolved in court and cannot be decided by parliament.

One VP faction is led by the prime minister, Edward Natapei, while the other is led by Harry Iauko, who has now joined the opposition.
