Many businesses and households without backup generators in parts of Upolu in Samoa have been hit hard by power rationing.
The Electric Power Corporation says the rationing is due to technical problems with the main generator at the main power plant and low hydro water levels because of a lack of rainfall.
The corporation is urging consumers to rely on small power generators.
Our correspondent, Autagavaia Tipi Autagavaia, says the power is off for at least four hours at a time, affecting the capital, many villages inland and some on the south coast.
"Business in the town area, and also families, the normal operation for families. Small businesses, especially village shops, as well as beach resorts like out at Aleipata because they are relying on the power for their operation."
Autagavaia Tipi Autagavaia says despite heavy rain this week, the EPC hasn't announced when the rationing of power will end.
