New Solomons database encouraging women in leadership

2:59 pm on 26 May 2010

The coordinator of a new database of women's resumes in Solomon Islands says it is encouraging that more women to take on leadership positions.

The database was launched by the government and the Regional Assistance Mission Solomon Islands last week and will be used by the government and other organisations to appoint women to boards and commissions.

Dr Alice Pollard from RAMSI's Women in Government Programme says more than 100 women have already submitted their CVs to the database.

"One, to encourage women in developing their leadership skills, to enable them to sit on boards and to perform. But also to ensure that when there are conferences and meetings held overseas and Solomon Islands is required to send women to these meetings then we can ensure we look up the database and select the right women for the right meetings."
