Candidates for Governor General in PNG rejected

10:59 am on 24 May 2010

Papua's New Guinea's Clerk of Parliament has rejected the three candidates for the position of Governor-General because the nomination forms were defective.

The Post Courier newspaper says the Speaker made the announcement in Parliament.

The Speaker said the three nominees included current Governor-General, Sir Paulias Matane, and two former parliamentarians, Pato Kakarya and Roy Yaki.

The nominations were said to be flawed because two nominating Members signed their endorsement for two of the three candidates, while another signed for all of them.
