Fiji regime leader wants end to land squabbles

Fiji's interim prime minister, Commodore Frank Bainimarama, says the issue of land needs to be put aside in order for Fiji to move forward.

Fijilive quotes Commodore Bainiamara as telling the Tailevu Provincial Council that fighting for land will not bring anything but overgrown property.

He went on to say that everybody knows that land is a big issue but no one is going to take it with them to their graveyard.

Using the sugar industry as an example, he said an industry which used to be Fiji's backbone has suffered because land leases were not renewed.

He says there is too much politics that has racially divided Fiji and this has impacted on the economy.
