In the Northern Marianas, six villages on the island of Saipan begin water restriction measures today that are expected to last three months due to the re-sealing of a water tank on Capital Hill.
The Commonwealth Utilities Corporation says the new water service hours are necessary to allow a contractor to complete the waterproofing of the million-gallon concrete storage tank.
The CUC assistant executive director, Abe Utu Malae, says the sealant will protect the concrete tank and prevent contamination of the water supply in the area.
He is encouring residents to practice strict water conservation during this period.
