Mass protest against corruption planned to march towards PNG parliament

3:38 pm on 3 May 2010

Papua New Guinea police have given the green light for a range of NGOs to stage a peaceful march to Parliament House tomorrow.

The march is being organised by the Community Coalition Against Corruption which opposes legislation currently being considered by parliamentarians to amend the powers of the Ombudsman Commission.

The march is expected to draw thousands of people, with a plan to present a petition to the government voicing concern over the legislation.

Anti-corruption activist Noel Anjo Kolao has appealed to leaders of churches, women groups and business houses to join him and behave responsibly so that their protest march would achieve its key outcome.
