Samoa's health minister, Gatoloaifa'ana Amataga Gidlow, has praised the government and people of Japan for their assistance.

This comes after the ministry was given four new ambulance.

Two of the vehicles will be used for health service on Savaii Island.

Gatoloaifa'ana Amataga says Japan was asked for help after pleas from Savaii island MPs and after last year's tsunami when the ministry did not enough ambulances to transport the injured.

Japan has also donated four new trucks for the Fire Service in Samoa.
