Six security guards have been identified as suspects for last week's murder of a Chinese man and and attack on his wife, who is fighting for her life in hospital in Papua New Guinea's Enga Province.

Police say they know the names of the guards, who are on the run.

The acting Enga provincial police commander Chief Inspector Martin Lakari says the attack took place inside the couple's locked store.

Mr Lakari says the suspects were all from Kamas village near Wabag town where the Chinese couple's landlord lives.

He says the guards had been engaged by the landlord to guard the leased premises.

Mr Lakari has called on local people to help apprehend the security guards.

The Enga Governor, Peter Ipatas, has condemned the killing, saying it was a barbaric act.
